The syllabus.

5 modules and about 49 hours.

Module 1 · 10 hIndustry and rivalry: where the profit goes

You map the competitive forces in a crowded industry such as grocery retail, work out which ones squeeze margins, and learn to tell a profitable industry from a profitable company.

Module 2 · 10 hThe customer and the segment

You split the market by customer needs rather than age, read the case of a firm that picked a small segment and left the rest, and decide which segment your company deserves to serve.

Module 3 · 10 hCompetitive advantage: difference or price

You analyse the value chain and pinpoint what your company does differently, compare a cost-led manufacturer with a differentiator, then ask whether a rival could copy your advantage.

Module 4 · 10 hRivals and their replies

You anticipate rivals' replies to a price cut or a launch, study a price war between two restaurant chains, and learn when to avoid a confrontation and when to accept it.

Module 5 · 9 hThe strategic choice and defending it

You pull the analysis into one choice, where to compete and how to win, back it with numbers and stated risks, then present it to your group and answer its objections.
